There is something for everyone at West Fest, the annual street fair that reflects the eclectic persona of Chicago ’s West Town .   Hel d on Satur d ay, July 10th an d Sun d ay, July 11th on Chicago Avenue between Damen an d Woo d , the annual two- d ay party features live cutting e d ge ban d s an d DJs, Ki d Fest , Pet Fest, an appearance by Miss Illinois an d a multitu d e of ven d ors inclu d ing popular neighborhoo d restaurants an d retailers.   What makes this fest unique is that it’s locally planne d an d manage d by the West Town Chicago Chamber of Commerce, thus the emphasis is on “all-things local,” from the foo d to the talent.  

 

The Music

The biggest d ifference between West Fest an d other cookie-cutter Chicago street festivals is the high quality music.   West Fest is all about local artists playing original music on two stages.      This year’s weeken d lineup is as follows:

The Activities  

-Ki d Fest (on Wolcott & Rice) : The 5th annual Ki d Fest will be hel d in conjunction with West Fest, from noon to 6 pm both d ays.   A jamme d packe d two- d ay event, Ki d Fest features family fun with ki d s stage performances.   All pr ocee d s to benefit im pr ovements at local play lots – Snowberry, Superior an d Honore.

-Pet Fest ( near Wolcott at Chicago ): Each year West Fest features Pet Fest with pet pr o d uct ven d ors, canine bathing pools, an d plenty of pet activities for charity.   This year, West Town 's own Doggy Style Pet Shop will be hosting PUPfest (Protecting Urban Pets) an d the charity d og wash!   PUPfest will concentrate on e d ucating Chicago 's pet owners on how to keep their city pet happy, healthy an d safe while navigating the city streets.  

 

In a d d ition, within PUPfest you will fin d the d og wash to benefit Chicago English Bull d og Rescue an d Treehouse Humane Society for Cats.   For just $10, your d og can go from hot an d d irty to cool an d clean.   An a d d itional $10 d onation to these great charities will get a Doggy Style T-shirt!   Doggy Style Pet Shop has ple d ge d to match d onations to these two amazing organizations.

 

- Miss Illinois: To top it off, Miss Illinois USA 2010, in her crown an d sash, will con d uct a meet an d greet with the public on Saturday evening and pose for pictures outsi d e the West Fest VIP tent.

 

The Vendors

West Fest features a plethora of neighborhood boutiques, restaurants and fine artists who set up temporary shop along Chicago Avenue – offering deals on everything from designer duds to fresh dishes and ice-cold drinks.
